FIRETEX in Car Parks
When fire protection of steelwork in open sided car parks is required, then the following recommendations and life to first maintenance (LTFM) guidelines apply, assuming the steelwork has previously been blast cleaned to Sa 2.5 and protected with an appropriate primer.
- Perimeter beams and columns, these are any sections which can be directly subjected to rain/snow/sun etc:-
For LTFM up to 10 years – apply appropriate thin film FIRETEX product to required thickness and topcoat with Resistex C137V2 at 150 microns total dry film thickness (dft).
For LTFM up to 20 years – apply FIRETEX M95 (or M90) to required dft and topcoat with Resistex C137V2 at 50 microns dft.
- Interior beams and columns, these are any sections which are subject to temperature and humidity fluctuations where some condensation may occur, but which are not directly subjected to the weather. This also applies for fire protection of steelwork in unheated but fully enclosed and watertight basement car parks:-
For LTFM up to 20 years - apply appropriate thin film FIRETEX product to required thickness and topcoat with Resistex C137V2 at 150 microns total dry film thickness (dft).
For LTFM up to 10 years - apply appropriate thin film FIRETEX product to required thickness and topcoat with Resistex C137V2 at 75 microns total dry film thickness (dft).
Note that for basement car parks, sections at the entrance may need to be treated as for perimeter sections in 1. above.
In all instances Resistex C137V2 can be replaced by Resistex C237.
